Suspected gas leak or smell of gas
Leave the property immediately. Don't switch anything electrical on or off, and don't strike a match. Call your gas network's emergency line from outside, or the emergency services.
Electrical danger
Any burning smell, scorch marks, buzzing, sparking, or a breaker that keeps tripping means stop immediately. Do not open a breaker panel or touch any wiring — call a licensed electrician.
Major water leak or flooding
Shut off the main stopcock if it's safe and easy to reach, switch off electrics to any affected area at the breaker, and call an emergency plumber.
Structural concerns
A sagging ceiling, a large or spreading crack, or a roof that looks unsafe should never be inspected up close by a homeowner. Keep clear and call a qualified professional.
